Word of the Day

I got bored with writing around the turn of 2016 and stumbled back into writing and publishing new creative pieces on a daily basis. I want to share this project with other writers looking for a way to experiment, stay sharp, and have fun with writing.

How it Works

Word of the Day Poems are a great way to publish new creative work on a daily basis.

There are two ways to craft a Word of the Day Poem:

1. Choose your word beforehand. Choose a meaningful word, a new word (for your vocab), a random word, a funny word, or a challenging word. Write a piece incorporating the word and using the word as a title.

2. Write a creative piece; poetry, creative non-fiction, flash fiction, or short story. Choose a word from the piece as the “Word of the Day.”

Keep the project going on a daily basis for as long as possible. I went 118 days, from January 19, 2016 to May 16, 2016. You will be surprised how far you can push your creative limits with this project. I also chose to publish my work, which you can see below for inspiration, but that’s not required.
